Books of the month: January Edition.

To kick off the year I thought about doing a complete reading list. From January to December… all the books that I planned to read. And then I realized how impractical that was because I am always finding books to read, and a lot of the time at random times whether it’s in store or online on my tablet. So I decided on something much more practical. Books of the month. I know that I’d never be able to read one book a week, although the thought is thrilling, so two books a month is much more reasonable for me. I have a ton of books on my bookshelf just waiting to be opened and explored but the two I’m choosing this month are ones that I’ve only had recently and that I’m genuinely itching to read as soon as possible. I also hope to do a review of each book at the end of the month before I announce my new books for the following month!

Becoming by Michelle Obama.

  • I bought this one a few days after it came out as an early birthday present to myself. I’ve only been following Michelle Obama since about the second half of her term as first lady because that’s basically when I started to realize that politics matter. I’m a late bloomer for sure. Anyways, I’ve always looked Michelle Obama as a strong, motivational woman even when I knew very little so getting the chance to read her words on her life was not something I planned on missing or waiting a while to do. I’ve had the book about a month, and I’ve been awful at finding time to read it with the retail world and school in full swing during this past month. Right before Christmas and just yesterday at the laundry mat, I took the 30 minutes for the wash cycle and opened up that bad boy and got to reading. Even in the very early pages about her piano lessons I am very much intrigued, and I cannot wait to keep reading.

Year One by Nora Roberts.

  • I am absolutely obsessed with Nora Roberts. I read my first Roberts book just because the cover looked interesting and I got even more than I bargained for. I finally found my favorite author. All these years I’ve been reading I’ve never been able to answer the question “Who’s your favorite author?” now, I can. I got this one at Barnes and Noble when I ran in for some TLC after a concerning doctors appointment, and it was in the bargain bin, WHICH I LOVE, and I had to buy it. After finishing her Three Sisters Island Trilogy, which I had a hard time putting down, I’m excited to get lost in another classic two-parter.

Which books are you hoping to finish by the end of the month? Share them with me!

P.S. I recently found out that a website by the name of book outlet exists…. I searched it real quick only to find other books, including Nora Roberts books can be bought, for example, 70% off listing price, bringing some to almost less than $5… ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I cannot believe I have NEVER heard of this website in my life… until now. Have you used it? Were the books in good shape? Is it too good to be true? TELL ME. Ugh, I feel like I found a book lovers heaven! I hope it’s true!

But seriously have some books that I should include in one of my months? I am all ears!

I launched Miss Raee in 2016 purely for a twenty-something girl who is trying to figure it all out, who loves to write and finally decided to share it. I’ve had a hell of a time figuring out what I wanted this blog to be, and I’ve eventually narrowed it down to that I want this blog to be ME, every weird, quirky, loveable aspect of me and even more importantly anyone who also sees themselves as that weird, quirky, loveable person who might love plant-based cooking, multiple fandoms including Star Wars, Supernatural, Greys Anatomy, DC TV, Marvel, The Magicians and SO much more. I found myself being an advocate for mental health, for animals, for the environment, and for equality. I’m a big believer in the vibes you bring, the power of music, and how important the storytelling of books and movies and TV can be. If I’m not on the blog, you can find me sharing selfies and nonsense on Instagram @/amandaraeex3 and live-tweeting and putting in my two cents on twitter at @/amandaraee_x3, so I hope you’ll tag along with me on here and my social media and enjoy all the weird, quirky things we all love.
