Women’s Wrestling.

I started this out as an Instagram post but I just kept writing and writing and decided it was better off as a blog post! Now before you read this, my memory is awful, there will be many people, moments and accomplishments that I missed here. Im one of those that just loves women’s wrestling & will defend it always.

To think about where the womens division was when I started watching #wwe six years ago to now, the transformation of women’s wrestling has been amazing. Not to discredit any of the accomplishments that any women made before now. Those accomplishments helped get us to where we are!! & i think thats incredibly important to remember. I’ll always remember K2 teaming with edge to defend the world title & being a HUGE fan favorite.

I’ll always remember Beth entering the royal rumble & being so dominating & breaking down the barrier of what everyone thought a women wrestler should look like. I’ll always remember the iconicness of Michelle and Layla, the co champions, the heel tactics and incredible wrestling. I’ll always remember that Nattie Beth Michelle and Layla were the first women to have a TABLES match and a damn good one.

Trish and Lita were breaking down walls before most of this new generation started watching. I honestly think that Eve Torres was one of the greatest heels as a women we’ve seen.

The rise of the Bella Twins from where they started to EVERYTHING that they have accomplished and everything they’ve done outside of WWE to shine a positive light on WWE is incredible. Brie Bella got the chance to wrestle Stephanie McMahon at summer slam! & Nikki Bella is the longest reigning Divas champion of all time!

Chyna is the only women to hold the IC Championship & qualify for the King Of The Ring. Maryse was, in my opinion, one of the greatest divas champions with charisma that can’t be matched. Paige and Emma were the true beginning of the women’s revolution down at NXT & yes AJ Lee broke the mold yet again. & in case anyone forgot Summer Rae was the first lady of NXT.

Jackie was the first African American women’s champion & Alicia Fox was the first African american Divas champion. Mickie James was a 5 time women’s champion & the second women to hold the divas and women’s title at the same time, along with having a mind blowing feud with Trish Stratus and becoming an alpha female in women’s wrestling. Kaityln vs AJ Lee had the first ever women’s contract signing.

And that’s all not to even mention the accomplishments of Mae Young, Wendi Richter, Fabulous Moohla, Sherri, Gail Kim, Torri Wilson, Melina, Victoria, Tamina and all the others.
The four horsewomen came in and people just paid more attention. They came in when women’s wrestling was higher than it ever has been and therefore got much more attention. But that does not make them the bad guys…it also doesn’t make them the only ones who ever made a different in women’s wrestling. They raised the bar, made all the other women have a bar to get too & they’ve all answered the challenge.

Peyton, Billie, Asuka, Ember Moon, Liv Morgan, Nikki Cross, Mandy Rose, Daria, Aliyah, they are the future of the women’s division.

Carmella and Alexa Bliss went full steam ahead when they were drafted to the main roster and now Bliss is the SD Women’s champion!

No matter what anyone thinks Charlotte has been an incredible women’s champion & brings a royalty of sorts to the title. Bayley could absolutely be the female John Cena as some say, and that is something no one has been able to achieve. Sasha Banks is an incredible wrestler always willing to do anything to help women’s wrestling rise. Becky Lynch has wrestled everywhere and brings such a unique presence to every match.

Naomi is one of the most athletic women the division has ever had. Nattie continues to bring fire and her verteranship to the womens division. Dana Brooke & Eva Marie bring a heat to themselves that not many women have the ability to get from the crowd! Nia Jax has burst on the scene and established her dominance in this division. Lana is working so hard to get better inside the ring and as Rusevs manager she has gone above and beyond! Paige is the youngest women to win the Divas title and the only one to date to hold the NXT Women’s title and the Divas title at the same time. Emma proves to still be the most underrated women who never gets enough credit for her NXT Work.

We’ve seen women in a hell in a cell match, steel cage match, another tables match, main eventing Raw and Smack down and in NXT they’ve main evented PPVs.

My point to all of this is that 3 women’s matches on a major PPV #RoyalRumble & an incredible fatal four way at #NXTTakeoverSanAntonio is amazing. We got TWO womens matches at wrestlemania, one for the divas title turned womens title. Every women in NXT & the main roster seem so hungry to keep pushing forward and it’s so exciting! We all wish there was more but that’s because we’re greedy. No one likes everyone, no one is happy with every woman who gets the spotlight each week. But one thing we all do love is women’s wrestling. And by looking back at where we started to where we are now, we are so incredibly lucky.

I launched Miss Raee in 2016 purely for a twenty-something girl who is trying to figure it all out, who loves to write and finally decided to share it. I’ve had a hell of a time figuring out what I wanted this blog to be, and I’ve eventually narrowed it down to that I want this blog to be ME, every weird, quirky, loveable aspect of me and even more importantly anyone who also sees themselves as that weird, quirky, loveable person who might love plant-based cooking, multiple fandoms including Star Wars, Supernatural, Greys Anatomy, DC TV, Marvel, The Magicians and SO much more. I found myself being an advocate for mental health, for animals, for the environment, and for equality. I’m a big believer in the vibes you bring, the power of music, and how important the storytelling of books and movies and TV can be. If I’m not on the blog, you can find me sharing selfies and nonsense on Instagram @/amandaraeex3 and live-tweeting and putting in my two cents on twitter at @/amandaraee_x3, so I hope you’ll tag along with me on here and my social media and enjoy all the weird, quirky things we all love.
